It's an outbound firewall that is able to block on a connection level. Alternatives are: Mac OS X' built-in firewall or TCPBlock. I don't see how iStat Menus is an alternative to Little Snitch? Little Snitch does! As long as you are connected to the internet, applications, potential information that you can send what you want, where you want.
